How long does it take to prepare plans?

Every project is different, but you can expect 1 week for smaller projects and 2-3 weeks for larger projects. Once a scope of work is established, a more accurate time frame will be given with your proposal.

How much do plans cost and what is included?

We here at ALD CAD evaluate each project's scope of work and create a custom proposal that states what is included depending on your needs. There are many factors that can influence a price and therefore there is no 'standard pricing'. Pricing is based on size, complexity, and if any assets will be provided. The more information we receive about your project the better. Once we understand what your needs are, we can accurately present you with a customized proposal.

What is the process to obtain plans?

First, we need to evaluate the scope of work of your project and determine what is required. Once we have a good understanding of what you are looking for in a set of plans, we will provide you with a customized proposal. When accepted, we require 50% deposit or a purchase order to begin work. After a first draft is complete, it will be sent over for your review. If any revisions need to be made we will work with you until you are satisfied with your drawings.

Why drafters as opposed to an architect or contractor?

Drafting is definitely a skill that not all firms or contractors have full access to. Architecture firms will have the ability, but will also come with the architect's price and they may not have the availability to turn projects around quickly. Contractors on the other hand just may not have a drafter on staff to create drawings for them so they may rely on an architectural set to work off of. However, an architectural set may not include specific plans, elevations or details that are key to a specific trade so hiring a drafter that can create these customized assets in a timely manner is highly beneficial.

How do I know if I need an architect for my home?

An architect is a person who plans, designs and reviews the construction of buildings. They have studied architecture and are licensed for building engineering. Each state has different requirements on what needs to be engineered or approved by an architect and there are exemptions from state laws concerning architectural house plans. You will want to to consult with your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to see what the requirements are for your area. If you are working with a contractor, they should know what is required for permit.
